Information management research topic of IML

Information Management

The Information Management research discipline includes core topics such as retrieval, accessibility, organization, dissemination, and user-seeking behaviour. Information policy and law, information management systems, and proper content curation are also other vital aspects that the IML specializes in. Moreover, the Lab put emphasis on the production of state-of-the-art research studies under the prism of information management such as digital libraries and metadata schemas, ontologies development, linked data structures, and semantic web best practices. Most of the efforts deploy their methods to cultural heritage organizations such as Libraries, Archives, and Museums.

Scientometrics By Information Management Research Lab

Scientometrics and Scholarly Communication

Scientometrics and scholarly communication is the study of quantitative aspects of the process of science as an informational and communicational ecosystem. Some of the core aspects of this discipline that IML is active are related to measuring research quality and impact, gaining deeper knowledge about citations diffusion, mapping scientific fields, and holistically, understanding publications impact both to the research community and society as well. The Lab also expands its knowledge in more recent approaches within the field such as Webometrics and Altmetrics as well.

Conservation and Preservation Management Information Management Research Lab

Conservation and Preservation of Archival and Library Materials

The field of Conservation and Preservation deals with the physical substrates of information, which constitute an important part of the Cultural Heritage of Greece. Conservation and Preservation strive to preserve physical objects for their information content and their meaning in an evolving social and cultural context. The IML has been actively involved in relevant research concerning the physical deterioration and decay of information carriers (paper natural and artificial ageing) and their conservation and preservation. Members of the team have been active in researching and practicing collection preservation surveys and risk assessment and management surveys in heritage organizations.

Organizational Management Libraries, Archives And Museums

Management of Libraries, Archives and Museums

The Lab members also focus and doing research on the management of Libraries, Archives, and Museums. This includes the development of frameworks for proper human resource management, strategic project orientation and management, knowledge management structures, strategic marketing, managerial re-engineering, and strategic alignment with IT capabilities. The Lab also focuses on managerial research topics such as the development and administration of educational/training programs for librarians, archivists, and museologists such as Information and Data Literacy programs.

Learning Management Systems Research At Information Management Lab

Learning Management Systems

Learning management systems (LMS) constitute one of the most innovative and promising research disciplines within the new era of e-Education. The Lab express specific research interests within this topic such as Learning Analytics for improving students’ engagement with the educational content, learners’ usability and experience optimisation, integrating educational theories within the LMSs, while also comparing LMSs capabilities to students’ overall performance.
